Burt Cummings, to put it bluntly, is a piece of garbage. Using his position of power as a quarantine camp security officer to threaten, abuse and flat out sexually assault the women living there, he represents an unfortunately very real kind of person. He is a disgusting, repulsive man at his very core.

Cummings' complete lack of human decency and realistic feel is exactly what makes his fate so satisfying. Burt has the most drawn-out death in the entire movie, essentially starting from the point where he is rightly shot in the leg for being a scumbag, and ending when he's put down as a zombie.

Between that time, he experiences nothing but sheer terror, crying and begging to be saved like a child lost in a mall.

Cumming's death is brutal, but not in a way that makes you feel bad for the guy. Rather, it's the kind of brutality that can only be described as cathartic. Good riddance.
