Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star In The Toxic Avenger Remake As "The Exterminator"
Action hero turned Politician Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to bring Troma classic The Toxic Avenger back to life, according to a report over at Deadline this week. The reboot will be directed by Hot Tub Time Machine's Steve Pink who has also co-written the script alongside writing partner Daniel C. Mitchell. But for those of you hoping the former Terminator star will be appearing as the tutu wearing anti-hero himself will be most disappointed when we tell you big Arnie is in talks for a less prominent, less mutated and let's face it less ridiculous role. According to Deadline, Schwarzenegger will play a character called 'The Exterminator' (so clever Hollywood) who mentors the titular hero after he is transformed from a geeky janitor into a superhuman creature after being dumped in a cannister of toxic waste by a group of local high school thugs. The original Toxic Avenger was released way back in 1984 at the same time as Schwarzenegger's Terminator by Lloyd Kaufman's Troma film company and was a monumental flop at the box office. This didn't stop it becoming an even bigger cult hit on VHS and DVD however and several sequels, an animated kids TV show and even a musical all followed as well as many other mega low budget movies under the same Troma banner. Despite a steady stream of regular movies ever since Troma has rarely been seen as more than a niche provider of low budget comedy horror movies and the idea that they would be able to land a name anywhere near as big as Schwarzenegger absolutely beggars belief. The Austrian Oak has yet to confirm this rumour but we'll all find out soon enough as production begins this autumn. Who would you cast as Toxie?
