Assassin's Creed 3: 10 Improvements That Make It The Best In The Series

10. Fast Travel is Actually Fast Travel

I mention this first because the Fast Travel system was one of the things that always really annoyed me in previous Assassin's Creed titles. To me, fast travel should be available at the press of a button or two and be possible mere seconds after the need to fast travel arises. That's why it's called Fast Travel and not Pretty Quick Travel. As any returning AC fan will remember, to fast travel in previous games you had to walk to a fast travel point; figure out which corresponding point it was you needed to get to; go through the load screens; reset your map marker and there was even still a chance you'd have to run a while to get to your destination. Far from convenient, I actually found this to completely disturb the smoothness. Imagine my relief upon realising that AC III finally featured a proper fast travel system, one which you can use from the menu instantly with a quick flurry of buttons. Admittedly you'll have to discover fast travel points yourself (by exploring the various underground networks) but pick up just three or four and you'll find that you're zipping around the two cities in no time flat. This isn't the sole reason I feel that AC III is the best game in the series of course, but it certainly goes a ways to improving the flow of the overall experience.
