At Least 14 People Killed At The Dark Knight Rises Premiere in Denver
Tragedy at the midnight screening of the new Batman film in Aurora, Denver.
Horrific breaking news is coming in from the US City of Denver... BBC reports that "at least 14 people" have been killed and "50 people injured" in a shooting spree at a midnight screening premiere of The Dark Knight Rises. Police say a gunman wearing a gas mask opened fire at the cinema complex in Aurora during the film's first public showing and reports are indicating the suspect released a smoke bomb during the incident. Police say they have taken one suspect into custody and Frank Fania from Aurora police department has told CNN that the suspect is a male, believed to be in his early 20s. BBC have confirmed that The Swedish Medical Center, which isn't the area's main hospital, has had three people checked in with gunshot wounds. One witness said the the loud bangs and the smoke from the bomb and the firing were initially thought to be live special effects put on by the cinema. CNN quoted one witness saying: "A guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing - picking random people." FBI have commented that they are investigating closely the incident but claim there are no reasons to think it was a terrorism link. More news as this story updates but at what should be a time when we are debating the merits and substance of Chris Nolan's final Batman chapter, cinemagoers are leaving the theatre talking about a tragedy.
