At one time in the series, the worst thing that could happen to Aang is to run into Zuko. Then we were introduced to Azula, Zuko's younger sister, whose firebending is so hot that her fire burns blue.

Although Princess Azula was always presented as being a sociopath, by the end of the series she is completely unhinged. Part of her downfall was the absolute certainty she had that no one could ever beat her in a battle. Once things started falling apart for the fire nation, she completely loses her mind in the stress of clinging desperately to power.

She's also an important character in the way of female representation. It is difficult to find many female characters on television that have no interest in romance whatsoever. Azula's priorities are gaining more power, her heart set on being fire lord one day.

Few shows have been as successful with such careful and gradual pacing of a character losing their mind. A live action version of this is the dream of any actress fearless enough to audition for her. That being said, whoever they decide upon had better have some serious acting chops.
