6. Is It Time Travel Or An Alternate Dimension?

What We Know

Set leaks from early on in production schedule seemed to show Captain America wearing his costume from The Avengers (the first movie, rather than the group of people), while the set appeared to be the Battle Of New York from the same movie. So it would seem that some heroes are going back to 2012 thanks to the devices they were wearing on their hands in the set photos.

But then, Kevin Feige has made it very clear that Ant-Man And The Wasp's plot is key to Avengers 4 and we already know how important multiverse travel is going to be in that, given the plot involves rescuing Janet Van Dyne from the Quantum Realm. The suggestion, based on the film's importance, is that they will actually travel to other dimensions to thwart Thanos.

What We Need To Know

So which is it? Are the devices "normal" time travel devices? Or do they allow the users to travel to alternate dimensions that are at different stages of the timeline (or are completely different universes)?

Or maybe it's a combination of the two? Perhaps the Quantum Realm (where time doesn't matter, remember) can be used as a crossroads to any point in time? That would offer a solution to both conundrums and would be legitimately satisfying.
