What We Know

Doctor Strange visited the millions of possible futures during the climax of Infinity War to see how to ensure that the heroes won, coming back with the startling revelation that only one approach could possibly lead to victory. He then seemingly allowed himself to be killed after giving up the Time Stone and letting Thanos win.

What We Need To Know

So what gives? Did he actually do something as part of a secret plan that we didn't get to see in order to position the chess pieces in a way that would ensure victory? Did he time travel to warn Nick Fury he'd need to contact Captain Marvel? Did he se the Time Stone another way?

Or - more likely - did he simply realise that pawn sacrifices are the only way to win chess in the long-term, with the added safety net of knowing that he would be returned from the dead? After all, he couldn't SEE a victory he was dead for. So perhaps his plan was simply inaction?

Here's a bit of theorising to get your mind working...
