In the grand history of comic book movie arrivals, none have been as hyped - or as anticipated - as Brie Larson's Captain Marvel.

The hero, who was the subject of Infinity War's sole after-credits sequence, is due to arrive in the MCU in next year's film directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The film will act as a prequel of sorts to Avengers 4, with the story said to revolve around the Kree-Skrull war, one of the most important events in cosmic Marvel's history.

In the ensuing months since Brie Larson was cast as the titular Captain, Marvel have gone to great lengths to reiterate her importance for the MCU going forward. Danvers is said to be the most powerful superhero the series has ever seen (watch out, Thanos), and with a military background, that skill-set and over two decades worth of interstellar experience, it's little wonder that she's been touted for a leading role in the future.

Indeed, how better to replace one Captain, than with another? It's something Marvel themselves have tacitly confirmed too, with the studio announcing at CineEurope that Danvers will "lead the entire the MCU" once she's formally introduced.
