Avengers 4: 8 Spoilerific Predictions For The Real Title

3. Avengers: Infinity Abyss

Thanos Infinity Abyss
Marvel Comics

The Spoiler: Thanos over-reaches and creates an army of clones designed to help end the universe who end up causing his downfall.

If Thanos gets his hands on all of the Infinity Stones, he will be undefeatable. That's sort of the whole point of the Infinity Saga and the entire reason the Stones are so feared and desired in the first place. Delivering anything but that undiluted conclusion will be a disservice to the fans who have committed to this whole sprawling narrative since Avengers Assembled.

So, it follows that the only way for Thanos to be defeated is for him to do it to himself, in a grand act of arrogant, accidental self-immolation. Now, if the plan is to follow Infinity Gauntlet's story, then Thanos will become so obsessed by power that he will leave his body entirely to become a celestial body, leaving the Gauntlet unguarded, at which point Nebula steals it.

But if that was going to be the case, Infinity War as a title would already be a spoiler, so there'd be no issue with whatever Avengers 4 is called. So maybe they're going to source another post-Infinity War comic instead, and go with the left-field choice of Infinity Abyss.

In that arc, Thanos clones himself five times, modelling each one on a Marvel heroic figure (Professor X; Doctor Strange; Gladiator; Iron Man and Galactus), only for them to overthrow him and seek to destroy the universe. With a little adaptation, that would be an incredible end to the MCU's Infinity arc, especially as it would force Thanos to accept his own humility, rather than being defeated.
