21. The Punisher (And The Defenders) Will Appear

The Rumour

As happens every time there's a big MCU cross-over movie, the Defenders and The Punisher were rumoured to be possible inclusions in the aftermath of Infinity War, because there couldn't be any way they'd all simply ignore the fallout of the snao.

Feeding into the rumour the Russos did admit that they'd considered it, albeit briefly:

"We made the briefest consideration of [including TV characters in Infinity War]. When we’re alone in a room with [screenwriters Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely, we consider every idea. We like thinking of everything. But it seemed like the story that had been told within the movies was so specific and elaborate already that once we started working through the story, we knew we had our hands full just with this set of characters and narratives."

Response

It's just not possible. On top of that narrative reason not to put them in, the Russos also qualified why the team won't show up:

“We have considered everything. But the trick is that we already have at least sixty characters with whom we must tell a story! And it’s hard enough to communicate with Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, Scott Derrickson, Peyton Reed, [Jon Watts, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck] and James Gunn at the same time, not to add all the showrunners and TV crews to this. The latter is also led by totally different people. So it’s practically impossible. Our job is to focus on the Marvel film world and offer a satisfying climax.“
