Avengers 4 Theory: Did Doctor Strange Time Travel To Captain Marvel?
1. So Where Has Marvel Been?
Since it was revealed that Captain Marvel would be set in the 1990s, the question of where she has been since has already inspired significant discussion. Some suggested she may have been trapped in Soul World (as Gamora probably is now) or that she was in exile for some reason and simply could not return.
But the fact that she was available at the end of a pager suggests she's gone by choice - or at least by design. It could be that she's spent the last two and a half decades looking for Thanos, but the fact that she failed isn't really the kind of reflection of her powers you'd want to lumber her with.
Perhaps Doctor Strange's warning to Fury was actually a warning to both of them, telling Marvel that she HAD to leave and remove herself from the situation in order to be useful to the heroes at the precise time to make the right future come off. Perhaps her coming too early would have led to her demise, given how powerful a threat she would be to Thanos? That would certainly fit the mystery and the idea of Strange travelling back in time.
All it takes is a little clever writing...
