Avengers 4 Theory: Did Doctor Strange Time Travel To Captain Marvel?

2. Starting The Avengers Initiative?

When you think about it, the idea of Nick Fury carrying around the fear of a catastrophic event like the snap thanks to Strange's warning from the future could explain a lot of his behaviour. Most importantly, it could explain his almost reckless commitment to doing the right thing, including clashing with his own superiors.

And of course, it could explain why he Avengers Initiative exists in the first place. In The Avengers, Fury says that the Initiative was set up because of Thor and the Destroyer's fight in New Mexico, which opened the world's eyes to the threats that lay beyond Earth's atmosphere and showed them how badly prepared they were.

But that doesn't make sense. According to what we know about Captain Marvel's movie, we'll see the Kree/Skrull War as a major plot point and the possibility of Mar'Vel's crash landing on Earth. If that intergalactic war and alien "invasion" wasn't enough to inspire the Avengers Initiative in the 90s, why would Thor's be more than a decade later? Could Nick Fury have b been lying to protect Strange's warning? It would make sense that Strange had made him a secret keeper for the preservation of the timeline.

In contrast, bringing together a team of exceptional individuals to protect Earth as its mightiest heroes fits an event like Thanos' conquest a lot more. Particularly when you think that the all of the original Avengers are the ones who survive the snap. Did Strange also tell Fury WHO to recruit as well? That's a fairly compelling thought.

There's still one question to address though. The issue of where the hell Captain Marvel has been for something like 25 years.
