Avengers 4 Trailer Description Breakdown: Is This What We'll See In The First Teaser?

4. Time Travelling And A New King Of Wakanda?!

Winston Duke M'Baku
Marvel Studios
"We get a glimpse of the Battle of New York from 2012 Avengers. Loki is shown looking shocked and baffled as he is on top of the Stark tower. There is a flash of a blue light as the camera pans back. (Cuts to black) Next we see the Wakandan throne with M’Baku at the helm. He’s surrounded by his new kingsguard. (A mix of the hill tribe and Dora Milaje). Shuri and Banner are seen working on a new project in the lab. Black Widow, in full gear, is in Hawkeye’s family home from Age of Ultron. Basically everything is thrown all over the place and broken. Nat is studying some type of map with multiple photos and locations on it. A quick shot of Thanos is shown with a long sword, walking down an alleyway in New York City. The next shot is a dark hooded figure with glowing eyes, aiming a bow and arrow before shooting towards the camera."

Response:

There are a couple of notable things here: firstly, this is a pretty overt confirmation that we're getting time travel, with both The Battle Of New York and the Barton farm from Age Of Ultron mentioned.

Secondly, there's the suggestion that M'Baku would be the new king of Wakanda, which confuses matters somewhat since Shuri would surely be the next in line to the throne given that her family line sits on it? Perhaps the law of legitimate challenges means that M'Baku can ascend to the throne if Shuri chooses not to? He would make a good war-time leader, after all.

That Thanos shot sounds pretty epic too and seemingly corroborates the leaked artwork that showed off his sword-like weapon. Good news that he's coming to Earth too.

Could that hooded figure be Ronin? It's a little weird to think that Barton's farm would have been ransacked and that secrets would be held there, since it was supposed to be a safe house to protect Hawkeye's family. Maybe this explains why he ends up going darker as Ronin?

3. Ant-Man

Ant Man And The Wasp Paul Rudd
Marvel Studios
"(1-2 visuals of the Quantum Realm) Scott Lang (no suit) is shown running through a park dodging explosions. (Shot of Space) Thor and Valkyrie are aboard a Kree ship. Thor says: “If the stories are true, you’re our universe’s last hope. If such a thing even exists anymore”. The next shot is an older, determined Tony Stark walking through the new SHIELD HQ (Avengers Facility in upstate New York). He’s in full SHIELD attire and carrying an orange briefcase. Banner (wearing spandex) is seen running from something, looking terrified. The next shot is Ant-Man appearing out of a flash of light and landing in a desolate place. We see it from his point of view from inside his helmet. He looks left to right and to his left again and says: “What in the-“.

Having sat out Infinity War and then being left stranded in the Quantum Realm at the end of his own sequel, there's a big question mark hanging over Ant-Man right now, particularly as we're being led to believe that the QR is so important to Avengers 4. Seeing him in the trailer makes sense in that respect as it doubles down on his importance. The last shot mentioned here is vague but seemingly suggests him escaping the QR and maybe discovering the time travel element?

It's great to see the suggestion that Valkyrie will return, since she was one of the more notable absentees from Infinity War too - could this be a suggestion that she and Thor end up linking up with Captain Marvel? Could the Kree ship be part of a rallied response for the universe's survivors to band together to take on Thanos as has been suggested?

SHIELD existing again is a strange one, but it's more just an unexpressed but logical development since Infinity War revealed Fury and Maria Hill are working together actively. It makes sense that they'd have a facility.
