8. Buffy Summers: Buffy The Vampire Slayer
"Hey I died twice" Buffy Summers sings in season six's 'Once More With Feeling'. Her first death was the result of a twisted self-fulfilling prophecy in the season one finale, walking into the Master's lair and dying at his hands, allowing him to break free and start the apocalypse. But she was resurrected long before the credits rolled, taking out the Master once and for all. Her second death in season five was a far more heart-wrenching affair though. With her sister Dawn kidnapped by mad god Glory, her blood opening portals to various hell dimensions, Buffy made the ultimate sacrifice. Her sister's blood was made from her own; if Dawn's blood could open the portals, then Buffy's blood could close it. The slayer leaped into the void, closing the portals and killing herself, leaving her friends devastated but the world saved. As season five ended audiences saw Buffy's grave stone. There was no question that she was dead, now the only question was how Buffy The Vampire Slayer was going continue without her. Cue a spell to rip Buffy out of Heaven and a very dark season six...
