Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Heartbreaking Joss Whedon Deaths That Will Be Hard To Beat
7. Penny: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Playing against convention, Joss Whedon killed off his lead female at the end of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. It shouldn't have happened. The main plot of Whedon's internet musical was about a mad scientist's love for a woman and the love triangle between Penny, Horrible and his heroic rival Captain Hammer. The story should have ended with Penny choosing between Dr Horrible or Captain Hammer. But in a surprise twist she did neither, dying in the final episode's shocking conclusion instead. Captain Hammer saved the day, turning Dr. Horrible's death ray back on itself, causing it to explode. Everything was great. The hero saved the day and the villain is defeated once. Only a stray piece of shrapnel from the explosion caught Penny in the chest killing her. Between them, the two men vying for her affection caused her death. If that doesn't prove that Joss Whedon have a penchant for ripping apart romantic couples, then read on. It is about to get a whole lot worse.
