9. Jeremy Renner
Not Hawkeye, mind, but actor Jeremy Renner. Because there is something not quite right about Jeremy Renner. Unable to find a real place in Hollywood, Renner is essentially a leading man who has been forced into taking secondary roles - and Hawkeye is one of his many unsuccessful attempts to play a memorable character (remember when he tried keep the Bourne franchise going? Um...). First off, it's important to mention that Hawkeye - as a character - was much improved for the sum of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and this isn't really a criticism of the character as it is of the man who plays him. Renner doesn't feel like a natural fit to Hawkeye, or - indeed - the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. He feels out of his element, unable to conjure up the necessary blend of self-awareness and humour that a role in the MCU requires. It's almost always uncomfortable to watch him failing to gel - and with his added screen-time in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the film is made extra weird.
