Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 15 Theories That Were Utter Bull

Spoilers aren't always right. Thankfully.

Given how loose Marvel's lips seemed to be in the run up to the release of Avengers: Age Of Ultron - at least in terms of teaser material and trailers that seemed to show a lot of story details - it was inevitable that some clever sorts would claim to have pieced together the entire plot.

Looking back at those pre-release spoiler round-ups and rumour lists, some calls were actually right, but there were far more that were just wildly wrong. Some of that was thanks to some sneaky misdirection tactics by Marvel - a new form of entertainment espionage that apparently includes putting things in the trailer that aren't even in the actual finished film. They tricked everyone, in other words.

A lot more is just because a lot of fanboys let their own personal wish-lists get in the way of logic, filling the gaps between teasers and trailers with rampant speculation that simply wouldn't suit the tone of the MCU, or how it will play out into Phase 3. So in the interest of smugness, and to prove that being a know-it-all about films you haven't yet seen doesn't actually mean you know it all, let's look back at the Age Of Ultron theories that proved to be entirely wrong.

Inevitably, some MAJOR spoilers for Avengers: Age Of Ultron follow.

15. Ultron Would Control The Hulkbuster

The Theory: Ultron would infect the Hulkbuster's tech and go on a rampage, leading to the Hulk having to intervene as the only Avengers capable of beating it in a fight.

The Supposed Evidence: Why else would he be fighting the Hulk in the trailer?

The Reality: Nothing of the sort.

As soon as the first trailer showed Hulk with his red eyes and furious anger, a lot of fans called that he would be the one losing his cool and rampaging. They were right, but not as many correctly guessed that Scarlet Witch would be behind his loss of control (or at least, not until the LEGO tie-in line spoiled it for everyone who saw it).

While Ultron was capable of controlling technology, for some reason he seemed less bothered about doing so to the Avengers' gadgets, which would have made it a lot easier to win. Hindsight's a wonderful thing.

Would It Have Been Better? Possibly. It would certainly have made more sense than Ultron just ignoring the Avengers tech. But then, it is always compelling to see the Avengers fight each other.
