Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 8 Things You Need To Know About James Spader's Ultron

6. Andy Serkis Helped With The Motion Capture

Whilst the likes of Bettany as Vision and James Spader as Ultron have had big, bombastic casting announcements, there are a few famous faces in the Avengers sequel whose roles have yet to be specified. Live action Scooby-Doo star Linda Cardellini and Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight actor Julie Delpy just got confirmed in unspecified roles, but a mystery that's been going on for months is what is Andy Serkis doing in there? The king of motion capture is making a relatively rare appearance as himself, not a CGI construct, with most rumours pointing to him as Black Panther villain Klaw. Serkis is a fine actor, even out of his goofy green spandex and ping-pong balls, but apparently his Age Of Ultron duties have been two-fold. He's also been giving Spader mo-cap advice. If you're gonna do something, you should do it properly. At first it was unknown if Spader's casting as Ultron just meant he'd be bringing his calm, dulcet and menacing tones to the character €“ which producer Kevin Feige poo-pooed, saying €œWe'll be capturing his face and his body to create a whole performance. We did not hire James Spader to do a robot voice.€ And that performance is, apparently, inspired by Gollum himself. Who knows better than him?
