Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Biggest Surprises That Will Get Fans Talking

3. Hawkeye's Secret Family

Nobody's favourite Avenger is Clint Barton. In the comics he's much more amenable - the recent run by Matt Fraction, David Aja and Annie Wu that recast him as a Rockford Files-style milquetoast trying to do best by the residents of his tenement building when Russian mobsters threaten them is infinitely charming. In the films, however, Hawkeye's never been anything more than a missed opportunity. Jeremy Renner was cast off the back of his career-making performance in The Hurt Locker, only to be introduced in a silent, unexplained cameo in Thor. In The Avengers he spent most of the running time under the control of Loki, and then shot some people with arrows to little effect in the big action finale Battle of New York. Here, in last-ditch effort to make Clint Barton a character worth caring about, Age Of Ultron does bring out an admittedly huge surprise: the €œsuperior€ he's seen mysteriously talking on the phone to early in the film isn't a defector, or Nick Fury, but his secret wife. Romanoff knows about her, but the rest of the Avengers were ignorant to his pregnant spouse and two kids, in an off-the-grid safe house that Fury set up for him when he joined SHIELD. It is kind of sweet, to be fair.
