Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 10 Incredibly Disturbing Comic Moments That Won't Be In The Film
5. Quicksilver: Powerless Terrigen Meth Head
When you're Magneto's son, having mutant powers is a pretty important defining characteristic of your self-worth, but when the Scarlet Witch literally decimated the mutant population following the events of House of M, Quicksilver lost that part of himself and it drove him a bit batty. Of course, having been an Avenger gives one a unique set of resources to pull from, and Pietro Maximoff happened to be the ex-son-in-law of the Inhuman royal family. The Inhumans are a race of Kree Supermen who all derive powers from their powers from terrigen mists, which come from crystals. The catch is that terrigen mists are only safe for Inhumans and even then are highly unpredictable and one never knows what powers or deformities will ensue from their use. Quicksilver was desperate and abused his relationship with his estranged daughter to steal the crystals and began essentially freebasing them like a common meth head, entirely ignoring the consequences. Luckily for the speedster, he achieved a similar power to his own: he was able to stop and jump through time in short bursts, which is essentially an equivalent to super speed. Unfortunately he was quite addicted to the crystals and they had some nasty physical side effects. Eventually this development was swept under the rug and never spoken of again because retcons, but all the same it was a pretty low point for the former Avenger that will not likely make it into any interpretation of the character.
