Avengers: Doomsday - Character Breakdown

1. Doctor Doom

This is it. It all leads to Doom and you could argue that the success of this film hangs on nothing more so than a single casting choice. Marvel Studios took a risk hiring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark all those years ago, and  have potentially taken an even bigger one with this.

Infinity War was unquestionably Thanos' movie, while the same will surely be said about Doomsday and Victor Von Doom, a character who has had about as much luck on the big screen as the Fantastic Four. Appearing in both the Tim Story iteration of the franchise, and Josh Trank's infamous reboot in 2015, there has yet to be a version of Doom to do the character from the comics justice.

Is Robert Downey Jr. the man to change that? The Oscar winner is reportedly very heavily involved with creating the backstory of his character, something that will have to explain exactly why Doom looks the same as Stark.

It would be a surprise if he didn't show his mask in First Steps in some capacity, most likely the post-credit scene to set up the fifth Avengers film already mentioned, before taking centre stage in 2026. This will be the beginnings of the story that will see Doom rule over a world comprised of jigsaw pieces made of the remnants of different universes, depending on how closely the comics are followed. If done right, this could be epic.
