Avengers: Doomsday - Character Breakdown
22. Bucky Barnes
Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) has been on one hell of a journey since his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe 14 years ago. He has gone from sidekick, to villain, to complicated anti-hero, he has died and come back to life, completely reformed and left the Winter Soldier behind, and has eventually even campaigned to become a government official.
After having a brief cameo in Captain America: Brave New World, Bucky will return again in 2025 as part of the Thunderbolts*. In that, he is one of a handful of names on this list that have certain questions hovering over them when it comes to their Doomsday roles.
Namely, no one knows what things are going to look like by the time the final post-credit sting has finished. Bucky will be alive at least, which is likely more than can be said about Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), the sole Thunderbolt* who was not a part of the Doomsday casting announcement.
Since receiving the shield from Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson has leaned on Bucky somewhat, with the former Winter Soldier's faith in Steve's decision being unwavering. This may not be a conversation either of them need to have again in Doomsday, though leading the Avengers will certainly be a step up for Captain America, but Bucky likely won't be far from his friend's side.
