9. Rocket Raccoon

The only full member of the Guardians Of The Galaxy to survive the Decimation has to have been chosen to stick around beyond the snap for some reason, considering the Russos' agenda to focus more tightly on the original crew of heroes. That would suggest he has a key role to play in the story.

And when you think about it, Rocket's arc so far has been defined by selfishness. Even when he began to feel a real sense of family in Guardians Vol 2, he pulled back somewhat. He arguably fits the "not the guy to lay on the wire" sentiment Cap levelled at Tony Stark back in Phase One, which makes it feel all-too-fitting for him to sacrifice himself to save others this time out.

How He Could Die

Poor Rocket has had to watch Groot die twice, so it would make poetic sense for him to lay down his life to save his friend this time.

What Might Save Him?

A Guardians movie without Rocket would have a pretty big hole in it, considering his importance to the team. He does have more story to be told, but it's more from a prequel point of view - perhaps Marvel might recognise that there's way too much potential in a Rocket and Groot movie, though and he may be saved?
