Avengers: Endgame - 10 Huge Controversies Nobody Saw Coming

Fat Thor wasn’t the only thing to cause a stir.

Avengers: Endgame delivered on the impossible. It wrapped up several decades long arcs with a satisfying conclusion, gave fans some massively anticipated moments and shattered box office records.

Pleasing such a massive fanbase with your already hugely-hyped finale is no easy feat - just ask Game Of Thrones.

However, as is always the case, you can’t please everyone all of the time (even when you gross $2 billion). From casting, actor gossip, marketing and fan reaction, the movie has generated a surprising amount of controversy... and that’s before you even look at the events of the movie themselves.

General complaints (Thanos being less developed this time around, too much/little screen time for favoured characters) don’t come into this; most entries here are much, much stranger.

Endgame was a bit of a once in a lifetime event, so plenty of pundits were clamouring to give their hot takes while the media frenzy was at its peak. Anyone who was anyone had something to say about Endgame, and there’s been plenty of arguments in the fallout.

Were they all worthwhile takes? Well, you be the judge of that.

10. Fortnite

The controversy here is just brain-numbingly stupid, which is why it takes its place at the bottom of the list.

In the scene where we first meet Thor (more on that later), Korg is playing Fortnite against Noobmaster69. That’s the entirety of the controversy. He was playing Fortnite.

You could understand people being upset if this was some immersion breaking product placement, but the game is only on screen a second or two; even then, it’s in the background. Unless you’re already familiar with Fortnite itself, you’d have no idea what it even was.

In real life, Fortnite has a tie in event with Avengers: Endgame, featuring skins from the movie. The appearance was a little Easter egg reference to this, and nothing more. Still though, plenty of people were upset.

It boils down to the fact that Fortnite is popular, and conversely that makes it very unpopular amongst the contrarians.

The game can be quite obnoxious; a young player base, heavy Twitch presence, microtransactions and annoying dance moves don’t endear it to anyone.

However, if you build your identity around disliking a game so much that seeing it in a movie is a sore spot for you, you need to get out more.
