The question of whether or not Captain America was worthy enough to wield Mjolnir was answered a long time ago in the comics, but that still didn't make the moment he picked up the hammer in Endgame any less surprising.

Whatever your theory on how Cap managed to lift Thor's hammer (here's ours), the fact that he did can only be considered a natural progression of the character's arc over the course of the films. The Steve Rogers of the MCU is just as worthy as the one from the comics, who's also managed to wield Mjolnir on more than one occasion.

He did so in Thor #390 while operating under a different identity, but perhaps the single greatest occasion where Steve wielded the hammer came in Fear Itself, where he picked up the weapon to assemble the Avengers and save the day.

It might not be the same thing as fighting Thanos and his hordes, but it was just as epic.
