The Theory

On the back of reports of a Jim Starlin character appearing in Endgame and Doctor Strange having a scene with a completely CGI character, one theory has suggested that to be The Living Tribunal. That entity will in fact be the main antagonist of Endgame, rather than Thanos who has the power to end the universe entirely as a response to Thanos' snap.

That will mean the Avengers will not only have to time travel to stop the snap, but they'll also have to convince Thanos not to pursue his universal balance theory to stop the Living Tribunal destroying everything.

Response

It's certainly an intriguing idea, particularly as it fits with the logic that Thanos won't stop and is undefeatable: the only way to stop him is to convince him to stop himself.

This wouldn't be the first time The Living Tribunal has been linked to the MCU, actually: back before Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 came out, when Sylvester Stallone was cast, it was heavily rumoured that he was set to play the character. You can probably all remember how that one turned out.

But that said, a cosmic entity turning up to restore balance (or to preserve it) isn't unprecedented (it happens in the Infinity Saga comics) and it would make sense as a means to convince Thanos to change his mind.
