6. Cap Messes Up The Timeline

So, the whole point of all of the time travel talk in this film is to establish that everything is fine as long as the Stones are taken back to where they came from, even though changing the past can't change the present anyway. It's more a plot device to remove the Infinity Stones from the future MCU by trapping them in a time loop.

Anyway, Cap's mission is supposed to restore the main timeline, which it must, because he ends up still on the same timeline and not on a branched reality that wouldn't lead him to the same point to meet Sam and Bucky on that bench.

Except, how is that possible? After he returned the Stones, Cap decided to go and get himself some of that life he'd been told to get. He went and had his dance with Peggy, got married and lived happily ever after with her. But... that would have created a branched reality, because it fundamentally changes Peggy's entire life. Unless she someone married him and harboured him as a time fugitive for 70 years until she died or something?
