Avengers: Endgame - 8 Biggest Challenges In Ending The Infinity War Story

With obvious hints in the form of contracts expiring, and in-universe suggestions like the natural closing of character arcs, Endgame will likely be the last time that we get to see certain characters on screen. The challenge then becomes how to effectively close off the stories of these destined characters, and how to make it so it fits what we have been shown of the MCU.

While the route of having a few deaths (that stick this time) is a pretty simple and concrete way to justify a character’s absence in future MCU titles, other characters may not meet such an end.

For the characters that survive the end of Endgame but relinquish their title as an Avenger, there needs to be a compelling enough reason why they wouldn’t return during any following events. For example, it would be a stretch knowing that Tony Stark is alive and well, yet choosing not to actively participate in whatever world-ending conflict is next on the menu for the MCU, especially when he was so willing to do so previously.

One option that has been mentioned comes from Vision in Captain America: Civil War. During the debate on the Sokovia Accords, Vision says (paraphrasing, of course) since Tony Start announced himself as Iron Man, the number of world-threatening events increased drastically. This logic could lead to the Avengers disbanding for good in the wake of not being able to stop Thanos the first time around.
