Avengers: Endgame - 8 Biggest Challenges In Ending The Infinity War Story
1. Setting Up The Next Big Bad Of The MCU
Thanos was an enemy 10 years in the making. With his brief appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as various mid-credit and post-credit cameos, there was always the looming threat of the Mad Titan. Once the dust settles at the close of Endgame, the threat of Thanos will likely be extinguished – but this is the MCU we’re talking about, and there’s always a bigger fish. So part of what Endgame will have to do is set the stage for future MCU villains.
Admittedly, this isn’t something that needs to be handled in its entirety during the runtime of Endgame. Similarly to how Thanos was built up, the next major villain will likely be seeded throughout the future MCU titles. Even though Endgame is the conclusion to stories introduced over a decade ago, it is also the jumping point for future MCU heroes and films. This means that the next major threat could be introduced, or hinted at, in Endgame.
Thankfully, with the eventual re-introduction of the Fox properties like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, there is a good selection of options that Marvel can leverage in the wake of its 10 year winning streak.
Though Endgame is ramping up to be the magnum opus of the MCU, there are still reasons to look forward to a post-Endgame MCU. You can read more about them here.
