Avengers: Endgame - 8 Biggest Challenges In Ending The Infinity War Story

2. The Problem Of The Infinity Stones

While Thanos is the primary threat to eliminate in the final act of Endgame, there is still the lingering question of what happens to the infinity stones when the dust settles. The stones themselves are dangerous artefacts. However, disposing of them is not a simple task.

We’ve seen how easily Thanos collected the stones despite being guarded, hidden, or embedded into androids. The universe has also now seen the power of the stones, which means there could very well be various ne’er do wells vying for their chance at slipping their fingers into the gauntlet for their own purposes. How then do the Avengers ensure that something as bad as the devastating snap will never happen again?

There have been some suggestions regarding the fate of the stones. In Infinity War, Scarlet Witch showed her ability to destroy the mind stone and, while it’s not clear if she is able to turn that power on the other stones, could be asked to do it again. There’s also the idea of hiding the stones somewhere that render them useless.

Arguably, the reason Ant-Man was not dusted was that he was in the Quantum Realm at the time and the stones are unable to affect that realm. There is also one other possibility that has only recently become an option due to the Disney/Fox deal, and that would be the Negative Zone, most commonly linked to the Fantastic Four.

Whatever route they select, the Avengers will have to make it their mission to protect the infinity stones from further abuse.
