Avengers: Endgame - 9 Huge MCU Problems It's Created

8. Black Widow's Death Undermines Her Solo Movie

Of all the Avengers fans expected to die in Endgame, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) sure wasn't one of them. She makes the ultimate sacrifice in order to acquire the Soul Stone, and it's made explicitly clear that there's no way to bring her back.

This naturally left fans bemused given that a Black Widow solo movie has already been confirmed, with the cast and crew slowly coming together for a planned shoot later in the year.

The most obvious solution is that Black Widow will be a prequel, but honestly, with the character now dead and buried, doesn't it seem a tad hollow to flesh out her origin story after the fact? If nothing else, it's yet further proof that Marvel waited way too long to pull the trigger on a Black Widow movie.

There is another far more groan-worthy possibility, though, that Natasha will actually be (somehow) resurrected, which would retroactively make Endgame a worse film and once again invite hand-wringing about the MCU's much-discussed stakes problem.

Though the Black Widow film certainly has a wealth of talent behind it, offing the character ahead of its release ensures it'll likely end up an awkward fit in whatever the next phase of the MCU actually is.
