The fate of Gamora (Zoe Saldana) was one of Endgame's best-kept secrets pre-release, with many fans speculating that she would stay dead given that her death occurred prior to the snap.

And the answer? Er, maybe?

The Gamora from our present does indeed stay dead, but a 2014 version of the character is introduced during the time heist, and at the end of the movie, her whereabouts are unknown, with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) seemingly on the search for her.

For all intents and purposes Gamora is both dead and not dead, and whatever becomes of her in the future, it creates a "damned if they do, damned if they don't" situation.

On one hand, 2014 Gamora disappearing and never returning ensures that yet another major MCU heroine is dead - and let's face it, their numbers are pretty scant already - but on the other, having Star-Lord find past Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and make her fall in love with him all over again would feel incredibly cheap.

In much the same way that 2014 Thanos felt like a pale imitation of his present self, fans aren't likely to forget that this isn't their Gamora, even if they might want to see the character return however which way.
