Avengers: Endgame - 9 Huge MCU Problems It's Created

4. Endgame's Scale (Probably) Can't Be Topped

Back in 2008 when the first Iron Man movie was released, it was impossible to imagine the mind-boggling heights that the MCU would reach, and it's fair to say that Endgame features about as huge a scale as is manageable in a single movie - and even then it struggles on occasion.

But because Hollywood is very much the business of "bigger is better", one has to ask - what the hell could be bigger than Endgame?

After all, there are only so many characters you can cram onto the screen at once, and only so much drama and action that the audience can reasonably keep up with. With that in mind, it doesn't really feel like the next decade of MCU movies can feasibly build towards another showdown of this scope.

In a recent interview, Endgame co-writer Christopher Markus even said "I don’t know how to follow it up, that’s the problem", and added, "Were we to take another [film] on, you can’t increase the scope or the stakes from where we are at the moment. We’d have to shrink it back down, do an origin story."

Kevin Feige has already suggested that the future of the MCU will be distinctly different from what we've seen so far, and while another Avengers movie is going to happen sooner rather than later, it will require some incredible creativity and finessing to get anywhere close to Endgame's level of emotional engagement and impact.

While the much-discussed "superhero bubble" may not be bursting anytime soon, don't be surprised if the MCU is never able to reach this level of anticipation and excitement ever again.
