Avengers: Endgame - Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

2. Captain America

We were always told that Cap was going to get a more significant role in Endgame after he was sidelined somewhat in Infinity War and this was absolutely the perfect end to his MCU arc (assuming it is the end).

He got several meme-able moments, an acknowledgment of the ridiculousness of his bottom and the culmination of his "I can do this all day" spirit as he was almost broken by Thanos and still continued to fight. He is the most inspiring hero in Endgame and absolutely carries the Captain America name perfectly in his actions.

And to top it all off, he got the idealised ending we all wanted for him - and few expected - as he got to have his dance (and the life he sacrificed to save the Earth) with Peggy. That's how you do satisfying story-telling.

1. Iron Man

In the end, it was always Tony Stark's story. 11 years and 22 films and it was always only about four words: "I am Iron Man."

Tony's arc had always been about his insatiable need to protect the Earth (and then the universe after that) to the destruction of his own life. He and Thanos were only a few shades different in their belief of doing "whatever it takes" to save the universe from itself, which was always the most genius part of this whole Saga once it had set its true course.

And watching Tony grow from being one of the key fighters on the battlefield against insurmountable odds to being "the guy to lie down on the wire" was about the most satisfying end to any character arc in movie history. His death was remarkable and bewilderingly sad and while there is excitement in the future of the franchise, it absolutely will not be the same without him.
