Avengers: Endgame - Every Character Ranked Worst To Best
4. Thor
There is a problem with the way Endgame presents Thor's PTSD in terms of the fat jokes it kicks off his new arc with, but if you can remove the character from those issues, he's enormously rewarding.
He might have been broken by his "failure" at the end of Infinity War, but there's a new, quirkier appeal to him that is at times pure Taika Waititi and at others Lebowski, as Tony Stark so pertinently christens him. His journey is well-conceived, he's still a huge badass and the finale teaming him up with the Guardians Of The Galaxy to set up them going out on an adventure for James Gunn's threequel has made that film the most exciting film on Marvel's slate.
Let's hope he doesn't lose any of the good stuff and Gunn avoids too many fat jokes.
3. Professor Hulk
Even with the revelation that Bruce Banner might be going to reappear in Endgame as his so-called Professor Hulk alter-ego, the debut of the smarter Hulk/Banner blend character was absolutely brilliant.
He's still as awkward and geeky as Banner, but with Hulk's brawn and a greater confidence in himself that is infectious. It helps somewhat that the effects work behind his new look is completely amazing too, but it's the characterisation - meshing brute strength and vulnerability that really makes him work.
This was the perfect way to advance the Banner vs Hulk arc and yet it was still as shocking as if there were no hints at all that we were heading in this direction. And the more we see of him in the future, the better, frankly.
