Avengers: Endgame - Every Death Ranked Ranked Worst To Best

1. Tony Stark

For the longest time it seemed like Captain America would be the one to die in the MCU. He seemed marked for death as soon as Civil War was announced and even before that his defiance of bullies and unwillingness to take a beating and stay down always looked like foreshadowing.

But Steve didn't have to lay down his life. In the end, the great sacrifice came from Tony Stark, whose obsessive, self-destructive arc led to him being the one to lie down on the wire. There was never any way he could have quit as Iron Man - after all, he gave Pepper the Rescue armour as an anniversary gift - and having him die a hero fit his desire to wrap the Earth in armour. In the end, it was him who ended up being the armour and in place of the Earth was the entire universe.

His death is easily one of the most emotionally authentic moments in the entire franchise (and indeed in any comic book movie) and if you didn't cry at least once (there's actually a trio of moments that should get you), you have the icy cold heart of a sociopath.
