This is a category that comic book movies have a very storied history within.
The MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy earned a nomination in this category at 2015's Academy Awards, joining other comic book movies such as Tim Burton's Batman Returns, Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy II, and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.
This category is, however, one in which the DC Extended Universe has the upper hand over Marvel, as at 2017's awards ceremony, Suicide Squad walked away with the coveted Oscar.
Despite a history of blockbuster franchises such as The Lord of the Rings and Mad Max winning this category, the trend for the past two years is to give this award to the fantastic transformative makeup in biopics, with the past two winning films being Vice and The Darkest Hour.
Transforming Christian Bale in to Al Gore and Gary Oldman in to Winston Churchill respectively, these films convincingly gave us uncanny protagonists to lead us through the tumultuous lives of these powerful men.
So, should there be another such biopic on the horizon, I wouldn't bank on Endgame going all the way to victory.
