Avengers: Endgame - The Frustrating Reality Of The "New" Post-Credits Footage

2. Hulk's Big Scene

This deleted scene would have been the first we'd see of Bruce Banner's new Professor Hulk alter-ego, but in a wholly different light to the introduction we got in the finished movie. Instead of that comic scene that showed more of Hulk's intellect and geeky charm, we would have seen him in full flow as a hero.

The scene shows Hulk in his purple and black bodysuit (immediately signifying it is the new "evolved" Hulk) rescuing people trapped in a burning building by carrying them out on a satellite dish. He then answers a call on his iPad and says "Steve who?" before meeting up with the three heroes he sees in the diner.

As if he'd forget who Steve Rogers was...

The scene is unfinished with obvious an CG placeholder for Hulk, whose mouth doesn't actually animate when he talks. Interestingly, the scene also includes a cameo by Reginald VelJohnson (best known as Die Hard's Sgt. Al Powell) as a cop on-scene. That makes the fact that Scott Lang mentions Die Hard later in the movie somewhat... problematic. Or it would have if the scene had remained.

It's definitely interesting to see this version of the Hulk, because him rescuing folk doesn't really fit with the image of the Hulk we'd come to expect over the course of the MCU. He's a far more blinkered creature and his appetite for destruction doesn't really sit with the subtly required to save people.

Still, you can see why it was cut, since his introduction in the diner is so much better. Which again makes it all the more frustrating that it's been included at all. It doesn't feel like there was a difficult decision made here - as there must have been for other deleted scenes - and the fact that it was cut before the CG was even finished suggests it wasn't exactly a jarring choice.

So what should we have got instead?
