Avengers: Endgame Trailer 2 Reactions: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

1. The Emotional Stakes

Cinema is all about what you feel. There's a reason why the most viscerally affecting movies - horrors, comedies, anything that makes you cry - are the most memorable and tend to attract the most accolades (even if critics tend to snear a little more than audiences). And if you boil film down to that singular agenda alone, this trailer is absolutely exceptional.

Combining that stunning score with the images throughout the first half and the new voice-overs sells everything about the build up to the Decimation and its immediate aftermath and then there's a faint glimmer of hope that builds massively as the trailer progresses until that final hero shot before the title and the Avengers fanfare.

In storytelling terms, there is absolutely no fat on the trailer. It has three acts, it has development, it has everything you'd want from a feature, including stylistic flourishes and character moments. It's less than three minutes long and it manages all of that and still doesn't even show any of the story really. It's monumental.
