Avengers: Every Single Deleted Scene From Endgame & Infinity War

2. Bucky Becoming Captain America's Successor

The second-to-last scene of Endgame revealed an aged Steve Rogers who, upon living a long and fulfilled life with Peggy Carter, decided to honour his friends with one last visit. Showing up where the present-day version had only just vanished seconds before, 'Old Man Steve' handed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson - essentially handing him the Captain America mantle in the process.

Though most fans were thrilled by the gesture, many were caught off-guard as Steve's original best friend Bucky Barnes became his successor in the comics and, considering they shared a similar bond in the MCU, this deviation was a little disheartening for fans of the duo.

Turns out, however, that in a very early draft (or even pre-draft discussions of the film), Bucky was considered as a possible successor to Cap. Unfortunately for fans of the character, the notion was quickly dropped as Sam's idealism was much more in-line with the mantle's than the Winter Soldier ever was.

That would've been something, wouldn't it?!
