2. Dormammu

The ruler of the Dark Dimension and arch enemy of Doctor Strange, it doesn't seem likely that a villain who wants to rule and or destroy the Earth would ever take the time to save it, but Dormammu has a pretty good reason. If the Doctor Strange film follows the events of the Doctor Strange comic book, then Dormammu will be begrudgingly indebted to the Sorcerer Supreme for his help in saving Dormammu's dimension. In the comics, Strange requests that Dormammu not attempt to harm the realm of Earth after successfully helping Dormammu save his own reality during their battle. Of course Dormammu will try to find any way he can to get around his oath, but one thing he won't let happen is someone else like Thanos taking the glory of killing his rival and destroying his planet. Dormammu agrees to never harm Strange's world, but he never says anything about not helping protect the planet. It seems crazy to think Marvel would even let a villain live longer than one movie let alone help the heroes bring another villain down, but he could do it entirely out of spite. But what of his power level? While Thanos could only hope to face an Abstract with the help of his Infinity Gauntlet, Dormammu has faced them on his own and has even prevailed in his battles. He could also cancel out some of Odin's enchantments, at one point in the comics reverting Thor back into a human by temporarily breaking the spell attached to Mjolnir. That's two for two on people who could beat Thanos in a fight on this list, so clearly someone like Dormammu wouldn't be jobbing to Thanos any time soon.
