Avengers: Infinity War - 10 Best Moments

3. Thanos Wins

While it wasn't exactly a shock that Infinity War ended with Thanos successfully acquiring the Infinity Stones and performing the iconic finger snap, it sure was satisfying to behold.

After Thanos briefly battles the Avengers, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) shatters the Mind Stone from Vision's (Paul Bettany) head, obliterating it and seemingly saving the day. Except, of course, that Thanos has the Time Stone, which he uses to rewind the moment and rip the stone from Vision's head himself.

Though Thor makes a gallant final attempt to stop Thanos, plunging Stormbreaker deep into his chest, the Mad Titan chillingly retorts, "You should've aimed for my head", before performing the snap. Thor has a moment to process what's happened and the scene then shifts to Thanos having a Soul Stone-influenced chat with a young Gamora.

Back in reality, half of the Avengers begin turning to dust and phasing out of existence, including Bucky, Groot, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Doctor Strange, T'Challa, Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Scarlet Witch, and in the movie's best-acted moment, an utterly terrified Peter Parker.

Curiously, all the core Avengers - Iron Man, Cap, Hulk, Black Widow and presumably Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner, who isn't in the movie) - survive in tact.

While it arguably would've been more impactful to simply have the Avengers start blinking out of existence, the brutal effectiveness of the scene is nevertheless undeniable, no matter that it will inevitably be reversed in the next movie.

Still, seeing Thanos surveying the beautiful horizon with his mission complete was a fantastic moment on which to end the film, and the pared-down, no-frills end credits were a nice touch too.
