Avengers: Infinity War - 10 Fresh Predictions Based On The Trailers
4. Hela Is Not Infinity War's Version Of Death
Death is a significant character in the Infinity Gauntlet comic series, which Infinity War is loosely based on. She's depicted as a hooded woman with Grim Reaper-like features but it's unclear how the movie will portray her.
One theory which has been doing the round for a while suggests Cate Blanchett's Hela could double as the film's personification of death - a character who Thanos is infatuated with, and is his sole motivation for gathering the Infinity Stones - even though the Thor: Ragnarok villainess is not listed among the cast.
It should be noted that nobody is down to play Death, either, so the way she will be depicted is likely a spoiler Marvel is trying to protect, but there's reason to believe it won't be Hela in this role, and not just because this would undermine Ragnarok.
In Infinity War's second trailer, Gamora can be heard explaining that Thanos's goal is to "wipe out half the universe" in an ominous voiceover. As anyone who knows their Marvel lore will tell you, he wants to do this to impress Death, but Hela would not be concerned by the living-dead balance across the entire universe, only that of Asgard.
Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death and her mandate concerning the deceased does not spread beyond the Norse realm's boundaries (not that it has them anymore, following the events of Ragnarok). Chances are, Infinity War's Death will be an all-encompassing personification since Hela almost certainly perished in the Thor sequel.
