5. James Gunn Was Worried Guardians Of The Galaxy Was "Too Funny"
Continuing from the filmmakers' prior discussion about Marvel seeking out directors whose prior work didn't immediately qualify them to direct big-budget tentpole movies, James Gunn confessed that he had a major attack of self-doubt after turning in the original Guardians script:
"I turned in my first draft of the screenplay, and I was really afraid, because I felt good about it, but I actually thought it was too funny. And the thing that [Joss] said to me, which I share all the time, was 'Just make it more James Gunn', and...that night after hearing that...I went home and wrote the '12%' scene."
