Avengers: Infinity War - 12 Plot Twists No One Will See Coming

3. The Secret Invasion Twist

When it was announced that Captain Marvel would be set in the 1990s, with the Skrulls making their long-awaited (and previously impossible) debut in the MCU, everyone expressing their excitement seemed not to ask why it was happening at the specific point that it is.

Right now, Marvel makes her debut after Infinity War's first half, and less than two months before Avengers 4 comes out. It might be a prequel that drops out of the timeline (and the suggestion is that Captain Marvel herself won't even appear in Infinity War), but you don't have that sort of story floating between two halves of another bigger story with no links whatsoever.

What if Infinity War ends with a tease that some of the superheroes we've come to love over the course of three phases have been replaced by Skrull impostors? What if a major death reveals the alien anatomy (just as it did in the Secret Invasion comic) and Avengers 4 is set up to explore that infiltration as well as the end of Thanos' arc?

That would be the perfect way to herald Kevin Feige's promised "all-change" agenda for what follows Phase 3...
