Avengers: Infinity War - 8 Compelling Theories About The Hulk

1. He Will Die

There are two possibilities for the end-game of Hulk's MCU: he will either come to find peace between Bruce Banner and Hulk (or at least a balance that allows him to live in harmony with humanity and his Avenger buddies), or he will die, becoming a selfless hero in the process. You don't need a degree in heroic storytelling to know which of those is the more likely.

Every suggestion that Hulk is going to be more volatile, more wounded and angrier in Ragnarok and into the Infinity War movies should be read as an ominous chime of doom for him. The unwritten laws of story-telling would suggest that he will initially be defined by that conflict, which will open a rift between him and his friends, before he comes to realise that that is his home, rather than his self-imposed isolation. And that sort of realisation is the kind of thing that works way too well as a precursor to a devastating, altruistic death for Marvel to ignore it.

Mark Ruffalo does seem awfully sure that there's never going to be a Hulk stand-alone. Maybe he's already in the know? And Hulk dying would be the perfect way to tie up the General Ross/Sokovian Accords arc: as Thunderbolt witnesses Hulk laying down his life, he could finally understand the value of superheroes and the extremes they're forced to go to.
