Another "But he was just getting started!" character when the massacre was going down, Stephen Strange will be back not only for his own franchise, but for one key reason: He's the only person who knows what to do next.

Coming after witnessing 14,000,605 potential futures, he concludes there's only one where the Avengers and humanity "win" - hence giving the Time Stone to Thanos and letting the events of the movie play out.

When asked why he did this, Strange's response is "We're in the endgame now", but that's all we get.

Set leaks from Avengers 4 show Benedict Cumberpatch as Strange, and it already feels like the only way to "win" is to fall back on some sort of time travel. A technique Strange has mastered before.
