Captain America: Civil War introduced the fear In Vision that he didn't understand the power in the Mind Stone and wanted to know more about it, which was basically introduced as a means to limit his powers. He was vastly over-powered when he first appeared in Age Of Ultron and that was a necessary trade-off.

The story of his relationship with the Mind Stone is one of the defining dynamics in Infinity War and watching him weigh up his responsibility to remove himself from the situation to stop Thanos getting his hands on the Stone while also wrestling with his love for Scarlet Witch is deeply compelling.

The best part of it - and the real testament to Paul Bettany's performance - is that at no stage do you question the legitimacy of the romance between a robot and a witch.
