8. Gamora "Kills" Thanos

When Star-Lord, Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis and Gamora head to Knowhere to locate The Collector and the Reality Stone, it at first appears that Gamora is able to get the drop on her adoptive dad, stabbing him in the neck and seemingly killing him.

Gamora gets a number of great moments throughout the film, but the anguish she feels at believing she's killed her dad, no matter how much of a monster he is - bolstered by Zoe Saldana's superb work in the role - made this a surprisingly effective moment, no matter how obviously fake it was.

Of course, this was just a projection created by the Reality Stone, but a potentially hokey moment of non-tension was in fact filled with surprising high-drama and dramatic potency thanks to Saldana's convincing performance.
