Avengers: Infinity War - Every Major Character's Best Moment

4. Thanos Cries For Gamora

Thanos is by far the most compelling and well-wrought character in Infinity War, and after six years of waiting, anything less would be a crushing disappointment. Picking just one moment above all others isn't easy, but it surely has to be the means through which he obtains the Soul Stone.

The Mad Titan holds Nebula hostage in order to ascertain from Gamora the location of the Soul Stone, which turns out to be on the remote planet of Vormir.

The pair head there, where they meet the Stone's gatekeeper, Red Skull (Ross Marquand), who demands the sacrifice of a loved one to obtain the Stone. Gamora immediately laughs at Thanos, believing him to harbour no love for her and therefore being hamstrung by his own dispassionate ambition.

As it turns out, however, the tears he sheds are for Gamora and the sacrifice he has to make, after which he throws her to her death and mournfully accepts the Soul Stone. This scene did a fantastic job humanising Thanos and his motivations, chiefly that he earnestly believes he's doing the right thing, even willingly killing his own daughter in the process.
